We have all heard the saying “attitude is everything.” After 30 plus years of teaching personal development, I am absolutely resolute that your attitude will make or break your success. Our attitude is an outward reflection of the way we feel about ourselves. What most people do not perceive is that your personal attitude can be felt and experienced by others. Your attitude speaks for you before you ever open your mouth. Simply put, having a good attitude is non-negotiable if you want to be successful.
There are four keys to the development and maintenance of a positive winning attitude. I have shared these strategies with millions and they have proven themselves to be time tested and effective. Let’s get started.
Step 1: “A Good Feeling About Yourself”
A truism of life is that no one can like or love you more than you like or love yourself. Too often, we forget our own self value and our negative thoughts create a negative attitude. Ask yourself, what are your five greatest attributes? Do you consistently display these attributes in your daily behaviors? Make a card listing these attributes
and read them daily to remind yourself of your personal value proposition to the world, to your family, and to yourself. These daily reminders will help you to create a positive attitude and present the best version of yourself to everyone you meet.
Step 2: “Feed Your Mind”
Years ago, I adopted a daily strategy of feeding my mind each morning. Just as your physical state needs nourishment and exercise, so does your mental state. It is easy to have a good attitude and feel confident when you know that you are growing mentally stronger every single day. Make a list of positive material to ingest each morning. All it takes is ten minutes every day to truly shape your outlook towards one of optimism and joy. I use a variety of individual sources from literature, quote books, excepts of great speeches, and stories discovered through the internet that are positive and inspiring.
Plant in your mind that which you desire to grow and it will enhance your attitude in untold ways.
Step 3: “Acknowledge And Appreciate”
Every person in their own unique way has so much to be thankful for in life. Truth be told, the most valuable things in the world cannot be purchased, owned, or sold for profit. Sit down and make a list of all the real things you have to be thankful for and acknowledge your blessings in the morning through reflection. If you reflect on the people, experiences, and moments in your life that are positive then each day will seem a little brighter. You will begin to develop a sustainable attitude of gratitude. We are all blessed and when we fail to count our blessings it diminishes our personal self worth.
Step 4: “Manage Minutes And Moments”
86,400. That is how many seconds you have a day to maximize the potential in your personal journey. I believe that learning to truly make the most of each moment of your life has a profound impact on your personal attitude. When you value your time, and manage your moments, you can truly change your daily experience to one of enthusiasm, energy and excitement. Just think, if you carved out ten minutes today to tell people you appreciate them how would you feel? Or if you took just 30 minutes each week to donate your time to those in need?
My advice is simple… stop wasting time and start cherishing the gift of time.
