We all have the power of choice. This power can be used as a life-changing element, or it can be used as a destructive tool.
Simply put, we are the sum total of our choices; whether good or bad.
Yesterday was a great day for me, as I had a day to reflect on the three-day Leadership Retreat I completed last weekend at my home in Florida. The power of choice is on my mind this morning because I recently witnessed 17 great leaders come together to make real business altering and life-changing choices in a team environment. The individual and collective choices they made through hours of intense discussion and debate will ultimately impact their teams, families, customers, and communities in the future.
Choices are not always easy to make. Even though in many cases the right choices are obvious, many people struggle to make the right choices on a consistent basis. Why? You might ask.
I believe it's tied closest to fear.
Fear of the wrong decision, fear of loss, fear of change, fear of others opinions, fear of failure, etc...
The old “what if” negative thinking game will creep through your mind and paralyze you.
“What if I am wrong?”
“What if it doesn’t work out?”
“What if I can’t replace my income?”
“What if he or she doesn’t enjoy the trip?”
“What if I lose my money?”
I have a better set of questions for you to ask yourself.
“What if 'your choices' work out?”
“What if you are right?”
“What if the choices make your life better and you happier?”
“What if your idea changes your future for the better?”
My message for you today is simple. Write down all of the choices that you have been contemplating, and take action on the ones that you have belief in (and about). Choose to make choices today that will take you to the people, places, things, and accomplishments that you want out of your life.
The greatest gift you were ever given was the power of choice.
What choices will you make moving forward?
